The daddy of endless runners? Even though it isn't endless, Namco's MetroCross is one of those fun mid-eighties games that was perfect one-more-coin fodder in arcades and made for great conversions to home systems. It gets another lease of life as the latest in Hamster's Arcade Archives, arriving today.
There's a brief live launch (August 18th) stream from Japan, perhaps with some other titles. Then the (almost) immediate opportunity for PS4 and Switch owners (when the stores update) to get all retro, dodge those obstacles and slippery ice squares, ride the skateboards and leap using springboards to reach the goal in the fastest time.
I don't think MetroCross ever got a sequel, but the creators could easily have become the standard bearer for the generations of runner games that have come since.
