Having had lots of fun with Streets of Rage 4, it is good to see the old-fashioned scrolling-brawler back in vogue. Even better when the excellent Bitmap Bureau developers (creators of the retro-gorgeous Xeno Crisis) take a swipe at the genre with Numskull Games publishing to deliver the menacing Final Vendetta with a physical and digital release on Switch.
Update: Final Vendetta was originally announced with a May release, now slipping into June, hopefully for even beefier moves and audio effects. Note, there's a pre-order discount down to £19 on the eShop ahead of the launch on 17th. Amazon has the physical release for £29.99 if you fancy
With a typical cast of oversize heroic thugs and plenty of oh-so-rad bullies to beat up, it looks great with smart animation, keeping the pixel purity of its forebears intact. There are plenty of game modes for when you get stuck on one level, and hopefully lots of modern touches to go with the thumping soundtrack and meaty audio pummeling effects.
Final Vendetta should be out this May, and here's hoping it does well enough for a sequel to give them a real problem with future titles' names, a la "Really-last-kerfuffle-honest!"
